Hey guys n gals,

I’m running OS X 10.3.9, and I’m simply wondering if anyone has used both Locomotive and Apache, and can tell me if there’s a good speed increase using Apache.

I usually write php apps and run them from Apache, and the speed is fantastic. But using Tracks is slow on my machine. I’m certain that the speed slowdown is from using Locomotive, and I’m wondering if it’s worth my while installing Ruby and running it with Apache.

Thanks,
Martin

Edit: I just wanted to add that I tried Tracks on Windows using Uniform Server, and was disappointed with the speed there too. That’s why I moved it to the Mac.

I don’t use Locomotive myself, so I’m not sure if it’s the culprit. However, it’s worth checking two things that can make Tracks run slowly (apologies if you know this stuff already):

* Make sure you’re running under production mode rather than development mode
* Try to run using FCGI rather than CGI - I don’t know if this is possible using Locomotive.

I find Apache hard to set up for Rails apps, so if you decide to run outside of Locomotive, I’d try lighttpd instead.
