Recurring tasks?

Is there any plan to support recurring tasks? I’m thinking of something like “going to the gym”, that I aspire to doing three times per week. If I went three times in the past week my status wrt this is positive. If I haven’t gone for nine days it’s negative. Going on a particular preplanned time isn’t important. I’m not sure that GTD supports this set of concepts. Can you see any demand for such a feature?

Probably not in the next version, but eventually, yes.

There are a number of ways you could do recurrence. You mention one based on frequency, but you could also go for a number of days after last completion. Say you set something to recur every 3 days: after you’d completed it, it would be invisible (in the tickler) for 3 days, whereupon it would appear on your home page until you marked it as complete again.

There’s a nice rich OSX application called Life Balance that manages the recurring tasks this way, as well as providing a visual view of task completion across categories so you can see if you have been focusing on one project at the expense of another.

The application was too sluggish, and required too many keystrokes, for me to use consistently. The simplicity of Tracks is very appealing in comparison.

I used to use Life Balance, so I’m quite familiar with it. The recurring tasks thing was what I liked most about it, but as you say, there were a lot of other annoyances in the long run.
