I just installed tracks on Dreamhost. I notice that it runs very slow. Launching the webpage takes about 30 seconds. Then each change I make takes 10-15 seconds to update. Does anyone know if this is a dreamhost, tracks or ruby on rails issue?

I don’t know much about Dreamhost, but what you describe sounds like you’re running rails using the cgi dispatcher. That means you’re loading all of rails into memory with every request, which has pretty poor performance characteristics… You want to me using the fcgi dispatcher so that rails and Tracks stays resident and responds to requests.

i just installed on Dreamhost yesterday, and noticed a marked improvement when changing to fcgi. the dreamhost wiki has information on how to do it in the ruby on rails section.

Yes, running Tracks on CGI rather than FCGI is not to be recommended for the reasons that lukemelia described.
