Hi,
My apology if this is not a correct place to submit feature request.

I have a very simple requirement. I want to make signup page public so that anyone can signup and start using my tracks installation. Right now, user has to send some request to admin through mail and admin manual creates user for each request. I have seen many hosted tracks applications which does allow user to directly register but I am not sure how should I proceed for this.

I am sure it only requires modification in user controller file but I am just wondering if someone has already implemented this feature.

Thanks

If you’ve seen it at a hosted tracks implementation, someone has already implemented it wink

You might ask chris @ tracks.tra.in.  He has that feature, and might be willing to release the changes upstream.  He’s running a free hosted service, so it’s not as if the feature is a competitive advantage.

Did anyone already ask Chris? I’d like to do the same and make a public signup possible. I’m an absolute beginner in programming with Rails so I fear that I’d be unable to write this feature myself.

I sent mail to Chris sometime back if he is interested in sharing code changes required to signup feature but I didn’t get response from him.

I tried to add this feature myself but I failed as I have very limited knowledge about RoR. So now I am working on PHP version of Track but more it’s more inclined towards things (link: http://thn.gs/tour) implementation of GTD.

it would be nice if this would be added as an enhancement request on the bug tracker, see getontracks.org for the link

Chris sent me a reply today. I don’t know if he’d like to see the code in public he sent me so I’m going to ask him before. Maybe somebody around here is able to include this code in the current development branch.

Hi everyone!

I finally published some code for patching Tracks to allow open signups in a tracks.tra.in FAQ entry.  Sorry for missing anyone’s earlier email about how to do this—keeping things open source is important, and even small diffs like this should be easy to find.  If the patch doesn’t work for you, please try commenting here and I’ll try to help.

Thanks Chris! This would be nice to add to Tracks 1.8.

Hello all,

this link (http://ex.pla.in/tracks.tra.in/opensignups) where the open signups hack was shown does not appear to be live any more. Can someone perhaps list paste the hack here or provide a new link to it?

Thanks!

Peter

the patch was applied to the master tree. You can find it there.
