Right way to unhide an orphan hidden action?

I created an action in a hidden project. Then I realized that the action no longer belonged in that project. Then I cleared its project field, and strange stuff started happening.

The item does not show up under its context on the main page. Searching for the item brings it up, but there is no edit button. It was fortunate that I had added a tag to it. When I clicked on the tag in the search result, it showed up that item again, and this time with an edit button. It comes under “Hidden actions tagged with <tagname>.“ So then, I cumulatively did the following actions.

1. I edited the item’s “Show From” and “Due” fields to today,  but it’s still hidden in other views.
2. I put it under a visible Project, but it’s still hidden from the context view and the main page, and the project’s # actions counter doesn’t go up.
3. I put it under a new temporary project (its # actions counter didn’t go up). But then, I made the project hidden, and is # actions counter DID go up. Then, I made the Project visible, and the action also became visible.

So, is there a better way to do this? Here are a couple of suggestions for improvements.

1. It seems that visibility is a per-action property, but it’s settable only per project. I would probably just make it a per-project property.
2. Search results should have an edit icon.

this is a cool scenario! The problem is that we keep track of the hidden state on projects and on todos. When you removed the project from the todo, the todo remained hidden. There is indeed no ‘normal’ way to recover a hidden todo. Your #3 is I think the only way possible.

This is a bug. We should clear the hidden state of a todo when its orphaned…

Could you create a ticket for this? http://www.assembla.com/spaces/tracks-tickets/tickets

Well, for the life of me, I don’t see why it won’t let me create a ticket there. I created an account, but clicking “New Ticket” gives
“Not Permitted
You do not have permission to access the requested page.“

“Join this space” link leads me to a blank page. Plus, I want to comment (under “Activity”) on another ticket that anonymous people have managed to comment on, but I don’t see any way to. Help’s got nothing useful. What am I missing?

there are new instructions on the wiki here: http://www.assembla.com/wiki/show/tracks-tickets
Could you see if these instructions work for you?

Sorry, still the same problem. Even after I log back in, “New Ticket” still gives the same error, and I don’t see an option to add comments (“activity”) to existing tickets.

You should join the space. So if it fails there, adding tickets won’t work. Perhaps if you discard your cookies?

I tried joining many different ways, clearing, etc. Still didn’t work. But then it occurred to me to use a different browser than Firefox. I used Konquerer, and “join this space” did not give me a blank space. So now I can create a ticket in either Firefox or Konquerer.  So there is a problem with either Firefox 3.0.5 or the website. Thanks for your help so far.

Thanks - that’s very helpful info about Firefox. I have now reported the bug:

http://forum.assembla.com/forums/3/topics/1050

We’ll see what they say.

Thanks again for your patience!

I joined myself using ff305, so I don’t know if that is really the problem. Did you try to delete your cookies?

marcianx,

The admins have responded to my report:

http://www.getontracks.org/forums/member/513/

As you see, they couldn’t replicate the bug. If you can do so and get a screenshot (though I pointed out that a blank page is a boring screenshot!) that would be great. Otherwise, if it was a cookie issue or something like that, I’ll report it closed so they don’t waste their time. I know it’s a pain, but if you could create a dummy user (with an obvious name, so I can spot it) and try joining, that would be great. We can remove the user from the space and delete it afterwards.

Meanwhile, if anyone else who was having problems joining can chip in with any other information, that would be very helpful.

Sorry, I completely missed your post the last couple days. Anyway, I’ve got the screenshots. I didn’t create a new account. I just exited the space and tried to re-enter it in Firefox. I’m on SuSE 11.1, and here’s the information on my Firefox about box: “Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.0.5) Gecko/2008121300 SUSE/3.0.5-0.1 Firefox/3.0.5” (I took a screenshot of this too).

However, when I tried to post it here right now, I got:
“Error Message:  We are unable to accept file attachments at this time “
Do you know whether this is temporary or permanent

Sorry, attaching files was broken because I hadn’t updated all the paths properly after migration. That’s done now and I’ve just tested it, so you should be OK.

Sorry, I can’t send in more than 75k at a time (Forum limit), and I just managed to crop each figure enough to put it within that file size while still having all the info I want you to see. I’ll send them in separate posts. Here is a description of the figures. Note that this is after clearing out the assembla.com cookies.

ss1.jpg: My firefox About dialog. Additional info: I’m running 32-bit SuSE 11.0 on my Core 2 Duo laptop.
ss2.jpg: Me logged in. Not part of any spaces.
ss3.jpg: I then went directly to the Tracks tickets page. I clicked “Join this space”.
ss4.jpg: Finished loading nothing.

Strange, I couldn’t put the last two together since I got the 800x600 error. I guess they can’t together total more than that?

Ah, the issue in the previous post was because I didn’t notice that the final one was epsilon over 600. raspberry
This is the last one.
