In addition to the general trouble with IE 8, it seems I have intermittent trouble on other windows based browsers, namely Firefox 3 (though Safari for Windows has been reported to have trouble).

The general procedure to reproduce this is to log in to Tracks as the admin user, add several users and browse around the /users view in FF3 on windows.  You will eventually get the text output of the page you have requested.

This sounds like the same situation:

Tracks is running in Phusion Passenger.

I used to get this a lot on nearly all my pages then I realised it was a memory issue.
Tracks wasn’t getting enough on one of our VPS’s. More RAM did the trick.

the link you supplied points to mod_rails / passenger, but not the rails app (i.e. Tracks) itself.

could you check the Tracks logs and apache logs to try to find where things go wrong?

Yes, the link does not reference Tracks.  But my installation does make use of mod_rails and seems to exhibit the exact same symptoms.  The logs report nothing unusual.  As far as apache/mod_rails/tracks is concerned it is responding to the request normally.

I will look into the RAM situation during this problem.
