Tracks won’t start using teminal command

I’ve been using tracks installed using bitnami and after I do updates and restart my imac the terminal command:

cd /Applications/tracks-1.7rc2.1/

./ct.script.sh start

no longer starts up tracks and I get the message no such file or directory

I’ve appreciated your quick and insightful guidance in the past and apologize for once again requiring your assistance, however, it is the only GTD application that works the way I work.

Could it be a problem associated with installing and uninstalling the application several times even though I used the uninstall application that came with the bitnami tracks installation stack or could it be because I have two tracks accounts one under the name johnnyfm and one under the name administrator.

Thanks for your help,

John

Have you checked that the folder ‘tracks-1.7rc2.1’ actually exists, and that it still has the script inside it? Also check your spelling of the script. I think it is ctrlscript.sh or something like that. The error message indicates that it can’t find the script you are trying to execute, which either means it has been deleted by mistake, or you’ve got the filename wrong. One tip is to start typing the name then hit the tab key, which will try to auto-complete the name.

I realize I misspelled part of the script in my original message above, however, when entering the script in terminal I did spell it correctly.  I have since reinstalled tracks using bitnami and tried the script to restart tracks and once again received the same message of “no such file or directory.”

Is there anyway to rectify this problem.  I’ve contacted bitnami but have received no response to my question.

Your help would be greatly appreciated,

John

So did you check that there was actually a script file named the same as the filename you used at that location? That’s what the error message is telling you. Another thing to check is that the script file is executable. Try using the following command from within the same directory as the script file:

chmod +x ctlscript.sh

Then try running the script again.

I apologize for my inexperience, however, I am not sure where I should check for the script file or how to check whether it is executable if I did find it.  Furthermore, in the script command you just sent, chmod +x ctlscript.sh is that a multiplication sign or a small x.

Once again I am totally new to script commands and such.

Thanks,

John

I just meant look inside the folder in Finder - it’s just a normal folder - and see if the ctrlscript.sh file is there. The chmod command uses a lowercase x.

Yes, the ./ctlscript.sh is in the file and I’ve attached a picture below to show you where and when I type into the terminal chmod +x ctlscript.sh I again get the message no such file or directory.

Thanks,

John

When you type the command ./ctlscript.sh in the Terminal, what do the commands ‘pwd’ and ‘ls -la’ (without the quotes) give you?

after typing in the command ./ctlscript.sh and then ‘pwd’ I receive the reply ‘/users/johncroutch’ and if I follow ./ctlscript.sh with the command ‘ls-la’ I receive the reply ‘command not found’

Thank you for trying to remedy this problem,

John

You’re in the wrong directory to run the script then: you need to be in the same directory as the script to run it, otherwise it doesn’t know where to look for it. Just FYI, the dot before the forward slash means in this directory. In your post at the top, you mentioned changing to the correct directory, which was why I assumed you’d done it. So what you need to do first (in Terminal) is:

cd /Applications/tracks-1.7rc2.1/

make sure that you get the correct path for the Bitnami Tracks folder. THEN:

./ctlscript.sh

Then that should work. By the way the ls command should have a space before the -la part.

hi, sorry if this derails topic, but chmod is a pretty useful command that can toggle a file into executable mode or not.  this is a command from the unix itself, so if you’re interested in working more with terminal, pick up any website or book on unix to get the basics down.
