You can now manage your projects/actions inside Gmail using GTDify Gmail Gadget. Add GTDfiy gadget to the sidebar of Gmail and track your next actions or add new action without explicitly open new browser tab for GTDify.

Click following link for more detail about accessing GTDify inside GMail account.

It would be nice if this gadget was generic enough that it allowed configuration to point a URL at your own Tracks installation rather than one hosted with at the GTDify service.

Trigger for any Gmail gadget is a small Xml file which contains meta-data about hosted service. As this Xml is a static file it’s difficult to create generic enough to have configurable Tracks URL. Navigate the following Url to check the content of this Xml file:

http://www.gtdify.com/modules/gmail/index.Xml

This Xml basically hits mobile version of Tracks which has few tweaks in CSS to fit Tracks inside GMail sidebar.

Anyone with public hosted tracks installation can use GMail gadget by just hosting this Xml file as well. Simply change the fields in Xml with respective values and upload to any folder (we have “modules/gmail”) in your hosting server. Voila! You have GMail gadget for your own Tracks installation.

Ok. GTDify iGoogle gadget is up and running.

Follow the steps in blog post to add this gadget in your iGoogle page:
http://www.gtdify.com/2009/07/02/gtdify-igoogle-gadget/

For Tracks developers:
Implementation is same as Gmail gadget, except you have to submit your gadget to Google for approval. Without approval you can’t add your gadget in iGoogle page.

First, Navigate the following Url to check the content of this Xml file:
http://www.gtdify.com/modules/igoogle/index.xml
Change the fields in Xml with respective values and upload to any public folder of your server.

After uploading this xml, submit this gadget to Google through following link and wait for their approval:
http://www.google.com/ig/submit

Once they approve your gadget, you can search this gadget and add it in your iGoogle page.

hmm, if we create a dynamic xml for the gadget, you need to submit it for every instance?

I am not sure but I think you require to submit each instances for approval. Please note that Google gadget approval process is manual and it took 1 week for me to see GTDify in their gadget catalog.

in this case, we cannot submit for the tracks project, because it needs a gadget per installation of tracks. So this is more something for hosted tracks. We could add this to the wiki though…
