I love the idea of the lists that are in the RSS feeds, but how do I get those to, say, my browser as a feed? I’ve tried using the URL in the google newsreader page, but that doesn’t seem to work.

I just gave a quick try to subscribing to one of my feeds via Google Reader.  Worked great.

Is your Tracks installation on a server that Google can reach (like, not at a private IP)?

I’ve also tried to add the feed into the google reader and end up with “no feed available ...” I’m using tracks.tra.in so I don’t know if that has something to do with it.  It’s defintely available from via the Net, but it may be that the feeds aren’t publically available.  It would be nice to get working so that I can view the actions in my errands context easiliy.

Ah, might be a good question for the folks at tra.in?

I’m self-hosted (DreamHost) so perhaps that’s the difference.

Stange.  It works fine for me using Safari and Firefox RSS.  However, Google’s RSS reader and Bloglines don’t want to accept it.  Just in case I’m doing this wrong I wanted to mention the process.

I Click the RSS feed I want, copy/paste the url of the feed into Google’s rss reader.  So I’ll end up with something like:

feed://tracks.tra.in/feed/rss/mledet/464b41dfc1012b567eb713d49bf02a59b022323

One more thing.  I took a feed and pasted it to the feed validator at http://validator.w3.org/feed/  It feels that the feed is for the most part valid, but that it does point out one issue:

** line 16, column 4: item should contain a guid element

Message

item should contain a guid element

Explanation

It’s recommended that you provide the guid, and if possible make it a permalink. This enables aggregators to not repeat items, even if there have been editing changes.

A frequently asked question about <guid>s is how do they compare to <link>s. Aren’t they the same thing? Yes, in some content systems, and no in others. In some systems, <link> is a permalink to a weblog item. However, in other systems, each <item> is a synopsis of a longer article, <link> points to the article, and <guid> is the permalink to the weblog entry.
